Sacred Spring Martial Arts Weekend April 2007

To say this event was significant is surely an understatement. Three days of top class intensive training from some of the best Martial Arts teachers in the UK has to be something special. The extremely well attended event hosted by Sacred Spring attracted Martial Artists from a very wide range of disciplines, making it a truly multi style weekend.

The Sacred Spring team were supported by some top class Instructors and would like to sincerely thank them all - not only for their commitment, skill expertise, quality of teaching but also their exemplary behaviour on and off the mat. In twenty years of Martial Arts I have never seen so much Martial Arts knowledge, energy, talent and goodwill in one place.

Sessions led by (and sincere apologies if I have missed anyone out) Joe Carslake (Ju jitsu), Russell Stutely (OCFM), Gordon Lawson (Judo) , Steve Merritt (JKD/Kali), John Duggan (Ju Jitsu) Warren Dickerson (Iaido) and the Balintawak Arnis¡¦ Richard Cotterill and Bill Murray were the most fantastic partnership to the Sacred Spring teachers who covered Tai Chi (Adam) Eskrima (me), Goshin Jutsu (James) and¡K. fighting on the stairs!!! ƒº (Jo) - (you had to be there!!)

A couple of the highlights for me was Steve Merritt teaching two sessions after breaking his collarbone on the first day! And the Balintawak Arnis sessions with Richard and Bill. But I guess being JKD/Kali these would be my highlights wouldn¡¦t they? !! Joe Carslakes¡¦ sessions were great as were Russells¡¦ who has a great teaching style, and nobody watching or participating could stop smiling (again you had to be there!)

Everyone had a great time ¡V loads and loads of energy on the mat ¡V people not wanting to miss a session (necessary to eat and drink!!) and plenty of banter in the pubs afterwards. Luckily everyone was teetotal so there were no hangovers in the mornings (Yeh! Right..)

We finished with a photoshoot at the Valley of The Rocks (I¡¦m sure pics will follow)

Finally I personally would like to thank (and I¡¦m everyone who attended this event would also) Jo Biggs for organising the whole thing which was a feat in itself, thanks Jo.

Happy New Year

Dear All,

I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting but it
is so difficult in today's world to know exactly what
to say without offending someone. So I met with my
solicitor yesterday, and on his advice I wish to say
the following:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit,
my best wishes for an environmentally conscious,
socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive,
gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice
holiday, practiced with the most enjoyable traditions
of religious persuasion or secular practices of your
choice with respect for the religious/secular
persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their
choice not to practice religious or secular traditions
at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally
fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of
the onset of the generally accepted calendar year
2007, but not without due respect for the calendars of
choice of other cultures whose contributions to
society have helped make our country great (not to
imply that the UK is necessarily greater than any
other country) and without regard to the race, creed,
colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or
sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting the
following terms:

This greeting is subject to clarification or
withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no
alteration to the original greeting. It implies no
promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the
wishes for her / himself or others and is void where
prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole
discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to
perform as expected within the usual application of
good tidings for a period of one year or until the
issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever
comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of
this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole
discretion of the wisher.

Water

The central image, symbol, of Sacred Spring is water. Why? What does this mean? Why is this important to us? Water flows. It can be a strong enough force to knock you over, and yet it is fluid. You may like to contemplate for a moment the notion that the rivers flow into the sea, and that the rain comes from the sea, yet the sea is never full nor empty. Ice, steam, clouds, rain are all just different states of the same element - water. Water can be still and calm, and it can be violent and fearsome. One drip of water can overflow a cup, yet one drop is not enough to satisfy thirst. Ultimately water can, with patience and tenacity, cause a cliff to collapse into the sea, or change the course of a river.

While we pay attention to the other elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Wood - Water is THE one of the five elements that encapsulates the fluid yet strong principles of Sacred Spring. confused
